cataract

Cataract Removal and Lens Replacement
Our practice takes care of patients diagnosed with Cataracts. Dr. Bergsma treats cataracts in surgery where he removes the lens after it becomes opaque and blurred vision occurs. The lens is replaced with an artificial lens to restore clear vision for the patient. The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, where an overnight stay at the hospital is not necessary. Dr. Bergsma will check in the next day, three weeks after the surgery, and at the six-month mark to make sure the patient is happy and experiencing no issues. Dr. Bergsma also offers a variety of specialty lenses including MonoFocal, MultiFocal, Toric and Crystalens.

yag

YAG Capsulotomy
This procedure is a special laser treatment used to help improve a patient’s vision after a cataract surgery. This procedure is very common and safely performed. Dr. Bergsma performs this procedure in office at Eye Associates of Rowan.

glaucoma

Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a common eye condition that damages the optic nerve, most often caused by high pressure in the eye. Dr. Bergsma treats patients with Glaucoma using appropriate eye drops, medication, and if necessary, surgery.

laser

Selective Laser
Dr. Bergsma can treat Glaucoma in office with Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty. This form of laser surgery is used to lower intraocular pressure in glaucoma patients. This option is provided if eye drops and medication are not lowering pressure in the eye.

eye exam

Diabetic Eye Exam
It is very important for patients with diabetes to get their eyes checked on a regular basis. Dr. Bergsma will look for changes in the blood vessels of the retina, which indicate diabetic retinopathy. When medically necessary, this will be treated with laser treatment.

dry eye

Dry Eye
Dry Eye occurs when the eye does not produce an adequate tear production. Some symptoms of this include redness of the conjunctiva, itching, and burning of the eye. We diagnosis this using InflammaDry and Tear Osmolarity testing to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment.

mascular

Macular Degeneration
A degenerative condition that affects the central part of the retina, resulting in distortion or loss of central vision. This occurs most often in older adults. Treatment includes medication or if necessary, laser treatment. Devices such as glasses, corrective lenses, and contact lenses are prescribed to help improve vision.
